Chinese gown (Emperor Gwa)

Chinese gown (Emperor Gwa)

Description

In Chinese society, bride wear their traditional gown, which we call as Gwa (Chinese word: 褂) once in a lifetime.

The Gwa embroidered with more Gold thread, the more expensive it is. This also represents how wealthy the groom is, which Chinese think how well the marriage will be.

Although nowadays, young ladies choose those Gwa with less gold to look younger, there are still brides choosing the one with lots of gold threads, like Emperor Gwa (褂皇).

In ancient times, men could have concubine, but only wife could wear the red one. Thus, red means a lot.

P.S. The golden mother pig and golden bracelets on the bride are the presents (best wishes) from their family and relatives.
